Deck Cost Calculator Australia

Estimate low, typical and high deck cost in AUD per square metre for treated pine, hardwood, composite or cyclone-rated construction.

LIFESTYLE & HOME

Estimate an Australian deck budget from metric dimensions and 2026 installed cost guides, with separate balustrade and site-complexity assumptions.

The estimate covers a broad construction range because structure, footing, elevation, access, stairs, roofing, bushfire requirements, cyclone design and council approvals can outweigh the decking-board price.

Disclaimer: This is an early budget only. Confirm structural design, National Construction Code and local approval requirements with a licensed professional and council before building.

Calculator information

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter deck length and width in metres.
  2. Choose the installed construction type.
  3. Add required balustrade length and type.
  4. Select a transparent site-complexity scenario and compare with written quotes.

Installed deck range

Total = (length × width × installed $/m² range × site factor) + (balustrade metres × guide rate)
  • Guide rates include broad supply and installation assumptions.
  • Approval, design and unusual foundations remain outside the estimate.

Worked example: 24 m² hardwood deck

Given:
  • 6 m × 4 m
  • $320–$500/m² installed range
  • No balustrade
Steps:
  1. Area: 24 m²
  2. Low: 24 × $320
  3. High: 24 × $500

Result: Estimated range: $7,680–$12,000 before approval or difficult-site allowances.

Frequently asked questions

Does the estimate include the subframe?
The selected installed guide band is intended as an overall early budget, but quotes should itemise subframe, footings, boards, fixings and finishes.
When should I use cyclone-rated?
Use it only as a high-level scenario where engineered elevated or cyclone-rated construction is expected; a structural quote is essential.
Are approvals included?
No. State and council rules vary with height, size, boundary and site constraints.
